György Képes, PhD, Dr. habil.
Attorney at law, specialising in European Law, co-founder of the Aradszky and Képes Law firm.
Dr. Képes was born in Budapest on August 12, 1973. He graduated from the Apáczai Csere János Practice School in 1991 and went on to attend the Eötvös Loránd University, where he studied at the Faculty of Law, graduating with a Law degree in 1996. In Spring 1994, he studied at the University of Amsterdam, as a scholarship student. He speaks English and Italian and prepares legal documents in both languages.
He has been a university lecturer since 1994, and became a doctoral student in the Department of the History of Law and State at ELTE University, Budapest in 1996, an assistant lecturer in 2001, a senior lecturer in 2007 and an associate professor in 2020. He has published numerous articles on constitutional and legal history and served as a co-editor of a textbook entitled the History of European Parliamentarianism and Constitution, as well as co-authoring and acting as the official editor of a book entitled The History of the Constitution and the Administration in the Civil Code. He wrote books on the Constitutional History of the US and Denmark and the life of the Social Democratic politician, Emanuel Buchinger. He also co-authored and edited a collection of research papers on the subject of absolute monarchy.
Since 1993, he worked as a legal apprentice in the Law Firm of Trinn and Zettwitz, becoming a legal clerk in this law firm, before moving to Andrási and Partners’ Law Firm. He passed his final law exams in 1998, and has been a member of Budapest Bar of Attorneys since October 1, 1998. He co-founded the Aradszky and Képes Law Firm with his business partner, Dr. Zsolt Aradszky on May 15, 2000.
His main area of expertise is commercial law (commercial contracts), competition law, in particular anti-trust enforcement, preventing agreements between entrepreneurs on courses of action to limit competition (Cartel Law). He also specialises in marketing law and consumer protection, as well as having expertise in company law, employment law and intellectual property law.
Between 1996 and 1999, Dr. Képes was a doctoral student at the Faculty of Law at ELTE University, Budapest. In 2000, he was awarded a diploma in European law. In 2006, he earned a PhD degree and on 6 November 2018, by the decision of the Habilitation Committee of the University of Debrecen he was promoted to Doctor habilitatus (Dr. habil.) based on his lectures held on Hungarian and English languages. His diploma was handed over on 1 June 2019 at the Doctoral Conferment Ceremony of the University of Debrecen.
Dr. Képes’ hobbies are Danish history, reading and listening to music, as well as driving vintage cars, collecting scale model and toy cars. In his free time he plays tennis regularly.
