György Képes, PhD, dr. habil.

Lawyer specialized in EU law, founding partner of Aradszky and Képes Law Firm.


He was born on 12 August 1973 in Budapest. After his high school studies in Apáczai Csere János Gimnázium, he graduated in law in 1996 at the Faculty of Law of Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. As a result of winning a scholarship he studied in the Amsterdam University in the spring of 1994. In December 2000, he qualified as lawyer specialized in EU law at the Institution of Graduate Legal Studies of ELTE. He speaks and prepares legal documents in Italian and English.


He has taught at Eötvös Loránt Universíty since 1994. He has been a PhD student at the Department of Hungarian Legal History since 1996 and from 2001 he has worked at the University as assistant lecturer, from 2007 as senior lecturer, and from 2020 as associate professor. He has held lectures about US constitutional history and Hungarian legal history since 1995. He has achieved PhD degree in 2006. He has written a book on the history of the US Constitution and several publications on the constitutional history of Hungary and the Scandinavian countries.


From 1993 he has worked for Trinn and Zettwitz Law Firm as a junior, later in 1996 he became an apprentice lawyer. From 1997 he continued his work at Andrási and Partners Law Firm. He took the bar exam in 1998. From October 1998 he has been the registered member of Budapest Bar Association. He founded Aradszky and Képes Law Firm on 15th May 2000 with his partner, dr. Zsolt Aradszky.


He is specialized in commercial law and competition law, focusing on legal matters relating to the mislead of consumers (including advertising law) and to the prohibition of anti-competition agreements and concerted practices (vertical and horizontal agreements). Other areas he is specialized in are company law and law of intellectual property.


Between 1996 and 1999 he attended at the post-doctoral course of the Faculty of Law of Eötvös Loránd University. In 2000 he received the degree "Lawyer specialized in EU law". In 2006 he got the PhD degree. On 6 November 2018, by the decision of the Habilitation Committee of the University of Debrecen he was promoted to Doctor habilitatus (Dr. habil.) based on his lectures held on Hungarian and English languages. His diploma was handed over on 1 June 2019 at the Doctoral Conferment Ceremony of the University of Debrecen.

He is interested in history, especially of Hungary, the Nordic countries and the United States. He likes reading, music. He is a collector of old toy cars and an enthusiast of oldtimer vehicles. In his spare times he plays tennis.
